Diversity Mark NI

Queen’s University Belfast is committed to building an organisation that is inclusive, diverse, and a progressive exciting place to work, where all employees are encouraged to participate and be able to flourish and succeed. 

We became a university in 1908 and have over 100 years of promoting gender equality and demonstrating our commitment to the principles of equality, respect and inclusion, principles which guide a lot of what we do. 

Diversity Mark was founded in 2016 by Women in Business NI after they launched their first manifesto with one of their four main pillars being Diversity.  The Diversity Mark, the first of its kind was developed by Women in Business NI, Queen’s University Belfast, the Northern Ireland Civil Service, Gilbert-Ash, David Gavaghan and Allstate NI and was launched in September 2017.

The Diversity Mark is awarded to companies following an independent assessment process which ensures they have reached the required standard of commitment to advancing Diversity and Inclusion.

For companies from all sectors the Diversity Mark is a ‘Mark of Progress’ that publicly declares that they are committed to building a more diverse and inclusive workplace to benefit all employees.

We currently hold a Bronze Diversity Mark from the awarding body.

The University was presented with the Bronze Diversity Mark Award in January 2019, in recognition of the University’s commitment to gender diversity and progress made in support of it, and following submission of an annual progress report and a full assessment by the DMNI assessment panel, retained Bronze status in 2020.
