Female dancers pushed the gendered glass ceilings regarding salary and pension at the Paris Opera; they promoted their own interests in terms of casting and promotion; some were even involved in collective representations to management. These performers can also be understood as having a creative impact on the evolution of theatre genres such as pantomime, ballet, and opera.  Much of the evidence is drawn from archival correspondence between these figures, their managers, and their patrons.
