The School of Arts, English and Languages, and the Modern Languages CDRG, are delighted to host the winner of the Society for French Studies 2024 Visiting International Fellowship: Dr Myriam Moïse, Université des Antilles. Myriam is a specialist in comparative Caribbean literatures and cultures. As the first SFS Visiting Fellow from a Caribbean institution, Dr Moïse’s appointment will foster collaboration between the Université des Antilles and UK universities with strengths in Caribbean/postcolonial studies, including Cambridge, Edinburgh, and Queen’s University Belfast. 

Myriam will visit QUB in the first week of February and will give a paper on Wednesday 5 February as part of our Modern Languages CDRG series entitled "Cannibalizing the Plantation, Crafting a Caribbean Ecofeminist Aesthetic".

Myriam Moïse is an Associate Professor of English at Université des Antilles in Martinique, and a permanent researcher at LC2S, the Caribbean Social Sciences Research Lab (CNRS-UMR 8053). She holds a Doctorate in Anglophone Studies from Université de la Sorbonne Nouvelle in Paris, and a PhD in Literatures in English from the University of the West Indies in Trinidad. Her research fields include Postcolonial Studies, Gender Studies and Discourse Analysis, with a special focus on the literary and artistic productions by women of African Caribbean descent in North America. Dr Moïse has published a number of book chapters and articles in peer-reviewed scholarly journals, among which Commonwealth Essays and Studies, PoCo Pages, Vertigo and Routledge Atlantic Studies. She is an affiliated member of ACWWS (Association of Caribbean Women Writers and Scholars) and an active member of SAES (Société des Anglicistes de l’Enseignement Supérieur) in France.

Dr Moïse has been a visiting research fellow at New York University in 2009, Brown University in 2012, and University College London in 2018. More recently, she has been recommended to the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board and nominated on the 2018 alternate list of final awardees. She is currently engaged in various research activities in the Caribbean and the Americas, including a Partner University Fund Project between Université des Antilles and Louisiana State University on the representation of slavery by contemporary artists and writers across the French Caribbean and Louisiana.
