The Collections Team at the Seamus Heaney Centre is very happy to present a screening of ‘Viewpoint: Door Into The Dark’ which was originally broadcast in 1970 and has been newly restored to 4K, allowing us to see it as never before.
'Viewpoint: Door Into The Dark' showcases some of Seamus Heaney’s best work as a broadcaster, a facet of his professional career which often been overlooked. Heaney traces the religious imagination of the land that speaks in his verse and explains how place influences poetry. We invite you to enter into Heaney’s imaginative landscape where you may, we hope, find some inspiration of your own.
The screening will be followed by Dr Patricia Malone in conversation with Anna Carragher. Beginning as a studio manager in the 1970s, a time when it was rare to see a woman in the role, Anna went on to become the first female Controller of BBC NI, with a career spanning radio and television. A graduate of QUB, Anna was also taught by Seamus, and our conversation will illuminate how her early studies shaped her work as well as offering unique insight into a remarkable broadcast career.
