The PhD Challenge with Hugh Kearns

This programme appeals to a group of people who learn best from doing as opposed to listening. It's a chanace to get involved in and learn from focussed activities and learn some of the skills of working in a team.

This programme draws on an active learning/problem solving approach.  A series of activities (e.g. team building, problem solving, learning styles) have been developed to represent parts of the PhD Journey.  

Course participants are allocated into teams of 4-5 and they undertake the various challenges.  Following each activity there is a full debrief that relates to the PhD experience.

Participants will get the opportunity to learn how to:

  • Problem solve
  • Understand their learning style
  • Deal with feedback
  • Deal with frustrations and set-backs
  • Work co-operatively within a team

 

Meet the speaker - Hugh Kearns

Hugh is a leading practicioner and researcher in cognitive behaviour coaching.  In collaboration with Maria Gardiner, Hugh has published ten books on various aspects of the postgraduate student journey and he is a regular contributor to Australian media, including a popular segment on ABC radio.
