Zina, who grew up in Beirut and lived in the United Arab Emirates, came to Belfast in 2018 to begin her doctorate in which she focused on Chronic Airway Diseases.

During her time at Queen’s, Zina enjoyed working with undergraduate Pharmacy students for which she was awarded the Associate Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy award.

As Queen’s international student ambassador, Zina worked closely with students arriving to Queen’s from abroad and supported them to settle into University life here. She also joined the Athena SWAN (Scientific Women's Academic Network) Committee to develop and promote good practices towards the advancement of gender equality within the School of Pharmacy and across the University.

Zina received many accolades during her time at Queen’s including The Rising Star Award at this year’s World Bronchiectasis & NTM Conference in Prague and the Professor John Glover Memorial Award, which funded her PhD publications.

Zina talks about her time at Queen’s: “I’ve really enjoyed studying at Queen’s. The University provided a wide range of opportunities to enhance my future career with a friendly environment and excellent support.”

Zina is currently a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Galway.
