The Raleigh Lectures, a series that began in 1919, are delivered each year by outstanding academics from the UK and beyond. Their subjects rotate between medieval, early modern and modern history subjects.   

The 2022 Raleigh Lecture was co-hosted by Queen's in Belfast, and was delivered by Professor Robert Frost, who holds the Burnett Fletcher Chair of History at the University of Aberdeen. Entitled ‘Towards a History of Compromise: Comparing Political Unions in the British-Irish Isles and Poland-Lithuania', the Lecture examined the impact of political compromise on key kingdoms throughout history.  

Commenting on the Lecture, Professor English commented: “It was excellent for Queen's to co-host this important event in Belfast with the British Academy.  Professor Frost's Lecture was compelling and original, and the subsequent discussion was valuable and stimulating.”
