As communicated in the statement on 3 March Queen’s has been reviewing its International Collaborations in light of the actions of the Russian government in Ukraine, and has decided  to suspend formal links with universities in Russia across research, education and teaching. This decision is in line with other universities and funders including the UKRI and European Commission.  

President and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ian Greer, said: “Queen’s University is taking this unprecedented step in response to the Russian government’s invasion of Ukraine which represents a significant challenge to humanity, integrity, and academic freedom, values we hold dear as a University. 

We continue to be committed to fostering international research engagement across the globe but we stand in solidarity with Ukraine, and take this decision in support of our colleagues affected by this conflict.

We also express our support to Russian members of our community who condemn the invasion and seek peace but may not be able to publicly express their opinion.

We continue to reach out to our Ukrainian and Russian students and staff directing them to our support services.   We also support the work of the Council for At Risk Academics (CARA) to provide a place of safety at Queen’s University for all threatened in the current conflict.”

There are a number of agencies actively working to get humanitarian aid to those in need such as the Disasters Emergency Committee  British Red Cross Ukraine Appeal and Save the Children UK | International Children's Charity and we will continue to look at ways to enable our staff, students and wider community to lend their support in a practical way.
