The Minister met with Professor Ian Greer, President and Vice-Chancellor of Queen's University Belfast, to discuss building a shared island and shared future through education.
In his speech, Minister Harris said there are four areas of focus: cross-border apprenticeships; partnerships between Queen’s University, Atlantic Technological Unit (ATU) and Ulster University; All-Island research centres; and cooperation on medicine places.
His closing remarks stated: "Only by working together can we ensure the new generations you are educating in these halls, and those in similar rooms across this island, can face the future, with confidence and hope.
"Hope isn’t a vague concept. It’s a belief system. It’s a way of living. It’s a way of leading. As Heaney said it is “something rooted in the conviction that there is good worth working for.""
The event concluded with a question and answer session with the audience, chaired by Queen's University's Director of Public Engagement, Ryan Feeney.
