Aswathi fulfils beloved mum’s dream of graduating with a Master’s
Aswathi Sunil is graduating today (Wednesday 13 December) with a Master’s in Construction and Project Management from the School of Natural and Built Environment at Queen’s University Belfast.
Aswathi’s mother’s greatest dream was for her daughter to study at Queen’s, and Aswathi achieved that dream when she moved to Belfast, facing the challenge of being far from home for the first time. Shortly after Aswathi’s arrival, she received the devastating news that her beloved parents had been in an accident, and she tragically lost her mother.
Aswathi explains: “My days became a delicate balance between supporting my family in India and focusing on my studies. The back-and-forth trips were both physically and emotionally draining, but they were my reality.
“During those challenging times, Queen’s became my safe haven. Professors, staff, and the friends I made in Belfast were my guiding stars. Graduating from Queen’s is a huge achievement, thanks to the unwavering dedication of everyone who supported me and helped fulfil my mother's dream.
“I would suggest to anyone contemplating coming to Queen’s to embrace the opportunity and move forward confidently. The dreams you pursue and the support you find there can pave the way for remarkable achievements."
Aswathi’s degree instigated an interest in the field of heritage project management, and she plans to pursue a career in this area. She hopes to carry out further research on the use of digital tools for heritage management.
