Master's student inspired by Inspire
This time last year, 27 year old Samridhi Saini was dealing with the sudden death of her beloved father who was miles away from her as she studied for a Master's at Queen’s.
Samridhi firmly believes she would not have pursued the dream of travelling to Belfast to study without her parents’ “unwavering belief. Their trust was the driving force behind my ambitions.”
Whilst Samridhi rushed home to Delhi to be with her father for his burial, her return to university was difficult. She struggled with her grief: “Assignments and work kept me physically occupied, but the void left by my father's absence cast a shadow on my mental peace. Amidst the struggle, I found solace in the support of the Inspire team, a lifeline for mental well-being.”
It was with their support that Samridhi succeeded in completing her dissertation: “The Inspire team provided invaluable support in addressing various aspects of my mental health. Their guidance and suggestions on coping mechanisms have been immensely beneficial and importantly, I have been assured of their continued support should I require further assistance, fostering a sense of ongoing care.”
Whilst she is incredibly proud of her achievement, the absence of her father at the forthcoming graduation ceremony has been difficult for her to process.
She says: “My father's unfulfilled dream to witness my success in Belfast echoed in the melancholy. The missed opportunity for my parents to stand by me during this milestone weighs heavy on my heart.
“Yet, as I stand on the brink of graduation, I carry the strength instilled by my father. His absence is palpable, but the pride he would feel in seeing my resilience is immeasurable. I miss him dearly, but in the face of adversity, I've emerged stronger, a testament to the indomitable spirit my father nurtured.”
