Queen’s showcase will highlight latest in bowel cancer diagnosis and treatment research
Leading researchers from Queen’s University Belfast will hold the 'Bowel Cancer Research Science Cafe’ event at the Patrick G. Johnston Centre for Cancer Research (PGJCCR) on Friday 16 February.
The event is open to the public and will provide the opportunity to hear from expert PGJCCR researchers on the latest scientific advances to address bowel cancer; a disease that effects over 1,000 people every year in Northern Ireland.
The Bowel Cancer Science Cafe will bring patients, carers and members of the public together with researchers and clinicians to share experiences of bowel cancer and will showcase the groundbreaking research being carried out in the PGJCCR, which is benefitting the people of Northern Ireland and beyond.
Queen’s researchers will discuss the latest advances in the field of bowel cancer research, including;
· How to overcome chemotherapy resistance;
· Using novel targeted therapies;
· Using bioinformatics to improve treatment decisions;
· The impact of exercise, nutrition and more.
Attendees will also hear from a patient speaking about their personal experience of bowel cancer and there will be an opportunity to ask questions to world-class cancer researchers.
The event will be followed by tea and coffee and will also provide an opportunity for a tour of one of the PGJCCR laboratories.
