Queen's hosts major Datathon
Over 100 students from Queen’s School of Electronics, Electrical Engineering and Computing showcased their innovation and problem-solving skills at a Datathon event at Queen's.
Hosted by Queen’s Business School, students were challenged to use their skills and creativity to devise impactful, data-driven solutions for complex sustainability issues facing Northern Ireland.
The students worked together in teams to analyse relevant data and create actionable, data-driven recommendations.
Winning team member Amy Hannon, an Economics and Accounting student said: “This was my first-ever Datathon, and what an unforgettable experience it has been. The competition was tough, but the process was incredibly rewarding.
Our project focused on enhancing healthcare in Northern Ireland through mobile health solutions, aiming to improve accessibility in underserved communities. It was so exciting to work on something that felt so impactful, especially knowing that we only had one day to make our vision come to life.”
The goal of Datathon was to explore sustainability within Northern Ireland and to develop recommendations that contribute to a more sustainable future for the region.
The event was supported by US Tech company Alyteryx, which donated $15 million of software to Queen’s staff and students, the largest in-kind donation the University has ever received. Kainos also provided tech mentors to support the students.
