Staff Payroll Giving

Why Payroll Giving?

Payroll Giving is a scheme that enables you to donate directly from your pay tax efficiently to any registered charity within the UK.

How it Works?

The University operates a Give As You Earn (GAYE) scheme through the Charites Aid Foundation (CAF).

  • A donation is deducted on a monthly basis from your pay before tax.
  • Because the donation is taken from your gross pay before you are taxed, a pledge of e.g. £20 will only cost a 20% taxpayer £16 and a 40% taxpayer £12.
  • CAF, a charity and HMRC approved and regulated Payroll Giving agency, processes your donation and charges a 4% administration fee per deduction (minimum 25p, maximum £10).

You can choose to support The Queen’s University of Belfast Foundation and help support students and the student experience at Queen’s. Every member of staff plays a part in delivering and enhancing the student experience, if you would like to support this priority and take it a step further you can make a donation and make a difference in students’ lives.

View some of the student experience projects here.

Making your donation go further

Most importantly your donation is TAX FREE, meaning it costs you less to give.

Donating through Payroll Giving means The Queen’s University of Belfast Foundation will receive more money than it costs you from your salary.

The Foundation will receive your full Pledge Amount, but as it is deducted before you receive your salary, it is pre-tax and costs you less.

The below shows examples of how much you may wish to donate and how much your gift will cost you:
