In September 2023 Queen's University Belfast and the REC Champions Network hosted their first conference dedicated to Race Equality in the Great Hall at Queen's University Belfast​. Some of the most influential figures on race equality in Northern Ireland took part in this inaugural Race Equality in Higher Education conference at Queen’s.

Hosted by the Queen’s Gender Initiative who lead the Race Equality Charter programme in Queen's, keynote speakers included Sheree Atcheson and Alfred Abolarin. The conference featured keynote speeches, panel discussions with interactive Q&A sessions and digital content including podcasts and videos. 

Academics, researchers, students and practitioners explored challenges and interventions to elucidate promising approaches to embed cultural change, diversity, inclusion and belonging. Areas of focus included student experiences, curriculum design, research frameworks, community impact and staff/student support mechanisms.
