10 Reasons Why Our Students Chose to Study at Queen’s
Thinking of coming to Queen’s? Here are all the reasons why our current students decided to study here.

We asked our current students why they chose Queen’s University Belfast, and here’s what they had to say.
1. World-Class Reputation
“I chose Queen's University because it is a Russell Group University, neither of my parents went to university so it was a dream of mine to become a student here. The faculty is competent and diverse, the representatives that I spoke to before coming here inspired me and I like being around like-minded individuals (whom I have met here)”
Andrew Atkinson, Northern Ireland, Broadcast Production
2. An Affordable and Safe Student City
“I chose Queen’s as its ranking for Medicine is well-known and of comfortable standing with a good reputation in not only the UK, but also back home in Malaysia. It is also a relatively cheaper student city, which was one of the key deciding factors for university for me. On top of that, it also has a reputation for one of the safest student cities.”
Aliya binti Mohd Zayed, Malaysia, Medicine
3. A Hub for Career Growth and Personal Development
“Queen's has expanded my understanding of employability, offering excellent career services and industry connections that have given me insights into the job market in the UK. The combination of a supportive academic environment, access to great facilities, and opportunities for personal growth has made Queen's the ideal place for my university journey.”
Aleeya Emelna binti Mohd Khairul Isma, Malaysia, Software Engineering
4. A Multicultural Student Community
“As a Law student, Queen’s provides a unique environment in which to study due to its history and culture. As a student of Spanish language, the multicultural society at Queen’s allows me to meet native speakers and engage with a diverse range of cultures during my studies. Queen’s has also provided me with the opportunity to pick up two more languages (French and Italian)!!”
Grace Nelson, Republic of Ireland, Law with Spanish
5. Inspiring Global Student Ambassadors
“I visited Queen’s University in April last year, just before starting my first year. During that visit, I met Jesslyn, one of Queen’s Global Student Ambassadors, who also happens to be from Indonesia like me. She had a significant influence on my decision to choose Queen’s. Meeting her made me realize the vital role Global Student Ambassadors play in helping international students feel at home. I was inspired by her and now want to help other students like she did, showing them that Queen’s is truly worth choosing and staying for.”
Callista Budihardjo, Indonesia, Computer Science
6. A Clear Path to Success
“Queen’s was always a top option for me. Having participated in the Queen’s Pathway Programme in secondary school, gave me a great insight into university life, social and academic aspects which assured me that this is the direction I wanted to go in. Additionally, home is only a 45-minute drive away, which is a plus because I am close if I ever need to go home. Queen’s also combined the two subjects I loved the most in school, Business and French, into a course, which I had not come across before. Having read all about the new Students’ Union and the variety of clubs and societies they offer attracted me even more, and I haven’t regretted my decision since.”
Martyna Abelkyte, Northern Ireland/Lithuania, International Business with French
7. Exceptional Student Support
“As a student, having access to strong guidance and support from the university is essential for academic and personal success. During my research, I discovered that Queen’s University Belfast stands out for its reputation in providing exceptional student support, which was a key factor in my decision-making process. Queen's offers various services, including academic advising, mental health resources, and career support, ensuring that students are well-equipped to thrive during their time at university.”
Keith See Choy Xing, Malaysia, Law
8. The Friendly and Supportive Community
“I chose Queen's University because I was incredibly impressed by the Creative Writing programme and it's talented, supportive, and uplifting faculty. I was also drawn to the friendly and welcoming environment. As an international student, I was worried I wouldn't be able to find a home here, but everything about Queen's online seminars, social media pages, and informational blogs helped me find the bravery to take the leap of faith. When I arrived, everyone invited me to the university and to the city of Belfast with open arms. I couldn't be happier, and I couldn't be more grateful to have made this decision.”
Brittany Marasciulo, United States, English with Creative Writing
9. Global Opportunities
“I was very conflicted on where to choose for uni, so when weighing up my options I really considered student life and opportunity over everything else. The global opportunities really wowed me, and as someone who wants to avail of those, it was a good sell. Apart from Belfast having a low cost of living, everywhere I looked the information about student support, connectivity and student life at Queens was overwhelmingly positive. (I also saw a gorgeous TikTok of the cafe in the Business School during the snow and it reinforced how gorgeous the campus is to me, so I was in).”
Chloe O’Malley, Republic of Ireland, Film Studies and Production
10. Top-Tier Facilities
“I visited Belfast last year and I loved everything about the university. The Lanyon Building is my Hogwarts and the library is still the best part about my ongoing experience with Queen's University. Back in India, psychology is not much respected and over here I find so many dedicated Professors, lecturers and labs; so many labs. My main reason to choose Queen's University was that I loved the course and I had this wonderful opportunity to stay with my dad here, who's a Reader at the Business School.”
Florence Diana Charles, India, Clinical Health Psychology
