James Laing

Technician
Technician

Grade 5 technician, qualified carpenter supporting the Education and Research activities requiring any carpentry work.

Jamie joined Queens in 2008 in an apprentice role to finish his carpenters apprentice program. On completion of that he was employed in the concrete lab supporting the students with education and research projects. he then moved to a permanent position in 2011 to the carpenters workshop as a grade 3 to assist the senior carpenter. he is now a grade 5 and the only carpenter in the school and manages all aspects of the workshop in the support of education and research projects. This workshop is a fully functional carpenters workshop with a multitude of fixed and portable equipment and tools all used by Jamie to deign and manufacture different models and apparatus for whatever the support project requires. One crucial aspect of the support mechanism that can be provided is advice on design and materials for any project. His depth of knowledge in carpentry combined with experience in other areas makes him a valuable asset to the school.
