Queen's-Organised UK Catalysis Conference Takes Place in Loughborough

A team of staff from the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, led by Dr Haresh Manyar, have recently operated the 6th UKCC Conference, which brought together catalysis researchers from across the UK and further afield.

The conference, which took place at Holywell Park, Loughborough, from the 7th to the 9th of January 2020, provided an opportunity for catalysis scientists and engineers to interact and network during sesions taking place over each of the three days.

The conference was attended by over 200 delegates from 12 countries from UK, EU, Asia, and Latin America, with a broad spectrum of backgrounds and experience levels being represented, including academics, industrial researchers, experimentalists, theoreticians, and students. Research presentations were accompanied by exhibitions and demonstrations from leading equipment manufacturers, allowing attendees to find out more about the latest trends in equipment and characterization techniques.

The conference was also supported by Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), Institute of Chemical Engineers (IChemE), and numerous sponsors from the chemical and related industries. The scientific programme was organised around many aspects of catalysis, including organo/biocatalysis, heterogeneous catalysis, homogeneous catalysis and engineering.

Dr Haresh Manyar, who led the organising committee for this year's conference commented:

"This year's UK Catalyisis Conference was a reflection of how big of an impact catalysis technology can potentially have on the chemical industry, the environment, the economy, and society as a whole. I'm delighted that the event was such a success, and I know that our attendees have gone away from the event with a greater level of knowledge about the area, and the exciting research taking place within it, particularly at Queen's University Belfast."
