Dr Beatrice Canossi will discuss significant insights into the experiences of former combatants and their representatives as they navigate their everyday realities within the Colombian Integrated System for Peace (SIP). The SIP is a holistic transitional justice system that employs both judicial and extra-judicial mechanisms to fulfil victims’ rights to truth, justice, reparations, and guarantees of non-repetition. In this presentation, Beatrice will reflect on findings from her PhD research - which explores the complementarity between the SIP’s judicial and extra-judicial mechanisms - focusing on the perspectives of retired members of the Armed Forces and former members of the FARC-EP participating in the SIP.
