Dr Oana Istrate

School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering

Dr Istrate develops advanced materials for sustainable applications, specialising in polymer nanocomposites, energy storage, and circular economy technologies. Her research includes 4D-printable stimuli-responsive materials for soft robotics and artificial muscles, novel battery materials for redox flow batteries, and innovative recycling technologies for plastics recovery.

She welcomes PhD students interested in additive manufacturing of functional materials, electrochemical systems, sustainable materials processing, plastic recycling and circular economy solutions. Projects combine materials science, engineering design, and real-world sustainability challenges with strong industry collaboration opportunities.
