MSc Advanced Clinical Pharmacy Practice

The new programme replaces our previous postgraduate courses in clinical and community pharmacy. It is completed by Distance Learning, without attending on-campus. It is therefore open to both UK and International pharmacists.

• This programme replaces our previous Clinical Pharmacy and Community Pharmacy programmes.

• Independent Prescribing training for pharmacists in Great Britain
• Clinical experience in Northern Ireland's Medicines Optimisation Innovation Centre (final year option for International students only)
• Management and leadership module linked to the Royal Pharmaceutical Society's Advanced Pharmacy Framework (final year option)

Non-medical Prescribing

The School provides 2 routes for pharmacists in Great Britain who wish to train as non-medical prescribers:

• Non-medical prescribing option in year 2 of our Advanced Clinical Pharmacy Practice programme (see above)
• PG Certificate in Prescribing for Pharmacists

The PG Certificate in Prescribing for Pharmacists is a one-year 60-credit programme that includes a 5-day clinical skills residential on campus.

Non-medical prescribing applicants must
- be registered as a pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) or the Pharmaceutical Society of Northern Ireland (PSNI). 
- be in good standing with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) and/or the Pharmaceutical Society of Northern Ireland (PSNI) and any other healthcare regulator with which they are registered. 
- have at least two years' appropriate patient-orientated experience in a relevant UK practice setting post registration.
- have an identified area of clinical or therapeutic practice in which to develop independent prescribing practice. They must also have relevant clinical or therapeutic experience in that area*. 
- have a medically qualified designated prescribing practitioner (DPP) who has agreed to supervise their learning in practice*.

Advanced Pharmacy Practice (MSc)

This programme has been designed for hospital pharmacists in Northern Ireland who wish to develop their practice to an advanced level. The course content is based on the capabilities and outcomes specified in the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) Core Advanced Pharmacist curriculum, and covers the four pillars of clinical practice, leadership and management, education and research.

The programme is open to hospital pharmacists in Northern Ireland who have completed EITHER the PG Certificate in Independent Prescribing and the NICPLD post-registration Foundation Programme; OR the Advanced Pharmacy Practice (with Independent Prescribing) PgDip (which has now closed to new applicants.
