Sally O’Reilly is a writer-maker of fiction, essays, videos, opera libretti, art criticism, performances and hybrid text-image-sound forms that interleave the theoretical, the technical, the comic, the fantastical, the psycho-social... In this session, Sally will introduce two methodologies – practice theory and biosemiotics – that helped her think more expansively about her own practice. Both approaches take into account embodied and social knowledges, the particularities of a work’s context and the many different, overlapping ‘interpretative communities’ it engages with. She'll present some of her solo and collaborative performance, video and text pieces, describing how they relate to these methodologies and what she means by 'distributed' authorship or composition.
