Location
Sonic Lab, SARC
Time
13:10 - 14:00

Clarinettist Heather Roche presents a concert of solo pieces relating to the Garden of Forking Paths project; which explores contingency and metastability in the fragile fringes of the instrument. The project treats the clarinet as a space of overlapping and connected resonances, where the player can explore emergent (and often microtonal) harmonies through gentle coaxing of breath and embouchure. The music is a delicate web of harmonies that unfold differently each time.

The programme for the concert includes a mix of pieces written specifically for the project, and complementary pieces that use related techniques.

Canadian clarinettist Heather Roche is one of contemporary music’s most versatile and adaptable voices, known for adventurous music-making and creative risk-taking. As well as her solo playing, she has a duo with the German accordionist Eva Zöllner, and since 2016 has played with Apartment House ensemble: with whom she has recorded 23 CDs for the Another Timbre label. Heather has also performed with MusikFabrik, Mimitabu, Red Note, London Sinfonietta, LSO, and more. Her website is host to one of the most widely read new music blogs on the Internet, and since 2016 Heather has been the Reviews Editor for TEMPO journal.
