In anticipation of the viva of Adam Pultz Melbye’s doctoral thesis: “A Continually Receding Horizon: Making, performing, and improvising with semi-autonomous double bass feedback instruments”, Adam will perform a concert on the FAAB (feedback-actuated augmented bass). Made in collaboration with Halldór Úlfarsson, the FAAB is a self-resonating vibrotactile feedback instrument equipped with onboard signal processing. 

The concert will document the ongoing exploration of the FAAB, which currently involves complimenting the internal feedback of the instrument with external four-channel signal processing and field recordings.

Bio:

Adam Pultz Melbye is a double bass player, composer, and improviser working in the field of acoustic and electronic sound. Their work spans live performance, sound installations, sound for dance, theatre, film, multimedia, sculpture, algorithmic design, and instrument building, and has been performed and exhibited in Europe, Australia, the US, and Japan. They often perform with semi-autonomous feedback systems, such as the FAAB (Feedback-Actuated Augmented Bass)—a feedback double bass created in collaboration with Halldòr Ùlfarsson.
