Computing Subject Ambassadors Newsletter: Issue 02

Hello and welcome to the second issue of the Computing Subject Ambassadors Newsletter. This time, we have feedback from ambassador groups across Northern Ireland and a curated list of interesting stories and resources you might be interested in!

Interesting Links & Projects

This is where we will share interesting videos, links and projects we find each month. They might give you ideas for your coding clubs, or things to discuss!

  • Legendary programming teacher and frequent freeCodeCamp contributor Tim Ruscica will teach you how to code your own Mario-style platformer game in Python. This course will also teach you some PyGame basics, and how to incorporate adorable pixel art assets. (2 hour YouTube course).
  • My kids and I just played D&D with ChatGPT4 as the DM (Spoiler Alert: It absolutely blew our minds).
  • What are the best technologies to learn in 2023?
  • How To Set Up A Public Minecraft Server (A simple 10-step guide to create a world for you and your friends — in less than 10 minutes!).

*Please note, while every effort has been made to choose appropriate links, we are not responsible for content on external sites.

Ambassador Schools Updates

"This is a brilliant initiative and we are delighted to be involved." - Our Ladies Grammar School

"Within the club, we began by giving them challenges using the micro bit, introducing them to python. We hope this makes them feel more confident in taking programming in GCSE and growing their interest in coding." - Assumption Grammar

"The project gave the stimulus to get a club started and developing which was just what was needed in our school. I now have 6 pupil ambassadors meeting with me on a regular basis considering and planning what to do next. I am delighted with this!!" - Cookstown High School

"First and foremost, I would like to say a huge thank you for the opportunity to participate in this program. Our IT Subject Ambassadors loved the course and the lessons." - Aquinas Grammar

Help us shape future Ambassador events!

We want to run events that you want to attend! Let us know what kind of events and initiatives you would enjoy or find useful. We aim to invite all ambassadors (even those who might have finished up, so your help and advice will benefit you, and those ambassadors that hopefully follow you too!)
