USA Partners and Public Events Tour

Academics from HAPP have completed a series of public events, symposia, partners visits, academic lectures and discussion panels in October 2023 in Boston, DC, and Virginia, culminating in an event in UMass Boston with Special Economic Envoy to Northern Ireland, Joe Kennedy III, for a screening of the QUB-RTÉ documentary on the Belfast/Good Friday Agreement.

The tour reached audiences of over 500 people, reconnected with partners (American University, Boston College, UVA, Georgetown University, George Washington University, University of Virginia, University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, Northeastern University and UMass Boston) and scoped further collaboration in research and educational programmes. Also receiving support from the Northern Ireland Bureau, the Irish and UK Consulates (Boston), and the Mitchell Institute at QUB, the tour showcased both HAPP and QUB more generally and built on our reputation in the US with partners and networks.

The HAPP staff involved were Prof. Olwen Purdue, Prof. Dominic Bryan, and Dr. Peter McLoughlin. They were joined by the Law School’s Dr. Cheryl Lawther, Faculty Dean for Internationalisation, Prof. Richard Collins, and were supported by AHSS Faculty, the North America Team, AEP, and Research and Enterprise colleagues including Anya O’Connor, Susan McCleary, Nicola Kernaghan, Patricia McCrory, and Daniel Patton.
