Anthropology is the study of human diversity around the world. In studying anthropology, you will learn how different societies live together and think about such topics as family, gender, religion, art, war and economics and gain skills increasingly in demand in a globalized and automated world.
Your degree in Anthropology at Queen’s will allow you to examine some of the deepest and most pressing questions about human beings, such as:

UNDERGRADUATE STUDY
Studying for a BA in Anthropology is a great way to get involved in contemporary issues, and gain a range of critical and applied skills, relevant to significant issues in a globally interconnected world.
Anthropologists at Queen’s University teach on areas including the island of Ireland, the UK, and cultures across the world, in places such as India, Pakistan, Australia, Africa, the Middle East, Japan, the Czech Republic, Greece, Cyprus and Turkey.
We offer a Single Honours Degree in Anthropology, as well as eight Joint Pathways:

Our MA in Anthropology explores current debates in the study of cultures and societies, and offers specialised knowledge and advanced skills for a range of competitive careers or further study at PhD level.
Studying anthropology at postgraduate level combines an in-depth understanding of human diversity and critical social theory, with hands-on training in carrying out grounded ethnographic research. MA students in Anthropology can choose between four strands of specialisation: Social Anthropology, Ethnomusicology, Cognition and Culture, Anthropology of Conflict, and Anthropology of Ireland.

Our course in public anthropology as well as our dissertation module invite students to participate in work activities at home or overseas. Top results are rewarded with opportunities to publish in the Irish Journal of Anthropology. We have a strong track record of graduate employability with 85% of students in work after 6 months.

Studying Anthropology at Queen’s gives you the opportunity to design and carry out field research anywhere in the world, with funding provided by the School.
