Postgraduate Taught Courses
Our current postgraduate taught offering includes three MSc programmes: MSc Psychological Science (Conversion), MSc Clinical Health Psychology and the MSc Applied Developmental Psychology. We also offer a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology and a Doctorate in Educational, Child and Adolescent Psychology. These latter two programmes span the postgraduate taught and postgraduate research provision in the School.
The MSc Psychological Science (Conversion) programme is a firmly established programme in the School’s portfolio and provides students with a non-psychology undergraduate qualification to study psychology and obtain the British Psychological Society’s Graduate Basis for Chartership, which is a necessary prerequisite before undertaking training to become a Registered Psychologist in the UK.
The MSc Clinical Health Psychology and MSc Applied Developmental Psychology programmes provide students with an undergraduate psychology degree (or related subject) the opportunity to further explore these specific areas of specialism within the discipline. This will enhance employment opportunities in the area but will also help students to determine whether a career in clinical psychology, health psychology or educational psychology might be appropriate for them.
All of our MSc programmes require students to undertake a research dissertation, during which you will be supervised by staff with expertise from our research groups.
Under the guidance of the staff in the School, our aim is to provide our MSc students with high quality teaching and learning that is both informed by the latest research evidence and also applied to different ‘real life’ situations. Our graduates will continue to professional training courses in psychology, PhD studies or directly into employment.

The MSc Psychological Science course is a fast paced, fascinating conversion course which includes a wide variety of modules such as core psychology, applications of psychology in the real world, research methods and statistics alongside thesis work. I come from a background of teaching in both mainstream and special education and plan to use the MSc as a stepping stone into Clinical Psychology. I am also a mother of three wonderful and energetic children aged three and under and have found the University most supportive both throughout my pregnancy and recently in welcoming my newborn to class – I believe she is Queen’s youngest student to date!
