Ethics, Responsibility and Sustainability

Ethics, responsibility and sustainability are addressed within all of the degree programmes offered at Queen’s Business School. This is achieved through a combination of dedicated modules, including Business, Government and Society and Business Ethics, as well as via the integration of content on ERS within a broad range of other subject areas, such as Supply Chain Management, Financial Institutions and Markets, Public Economics, and many more.

We have a long history of engaging in world-class research addressing issues related to ethics, responsibility, and sustainability. Recent examples include Professor Mark Palmer's research on geothermal energy, Professor Duncan McVicar's research on links between air pollution and ill health in Northern Ireland, and Dr Niall Cullinane's upcoming research project on working conditions in online retail warehouses in the UK.

Our mission at QBS is to educate and equip leaders to transform local and global businesses and societies. We promote ethics, responsibility and sustainability through all our engagement activities, including hosting events, working with businesses, engaging with policy makers, supporting communities, and developing resources.

For example, in September 2018 we hosted a meeting of the Northern Ireland Business and Human Rights Forum, where the Corporate Head of Human Rights, Food Sustainability and Food Packaging for M&S discussed their approach to respecting and protecting human rights. In summer 2022 we hosted an Artificial Intelligence and Human Rights Business Breakfast, attended by industry, students and alumni.
