Postgraduate: Hritik Chaudhary's Experience Studying MSc International Business

Hritik Chaudhary is an MSc International Business graduate from India.

Why did you choose to study MSc International Business?

I chose to study International Business because I’ve always been fascinated by how global corporations operate and adapt in today’s interconnected world. My curiosity lies in understanding the complexities of starting, managing, and scaling businesses across international borders. The idea of navigating diverse markets, cultural dynamics, and economic systems is incredibly exciting to me.

This course allows me to explore key areas such as marketing, finance, human resource management, and strategic decision-making on a global scale. It equips me with the tools to analyse how businesses overcome challenges, seize opportunities, and create impact worldwide. For me, it’s not just about theoretical learning but also about building practical insights that will help shape my career in the global business landscape.

Ultimately, I chose International Business because it aligns with my ambition to be part of a dynamic, ever-evolving world where creativity, adaptability, and strategy define success. I see this as the first step towards achieving my dream of contributing to and thriving within multinational organisations, and perhaps one day, launching a business of my own.

Why did you decide to undertake postgraduate study at Queen's Business School?

Despite receiving offers from other prestigious universities in the UK, I chose Queen’s University because of its unmatched course structure, exceptional team of professors, and its globally recognised business school. The programme here is not only comprehensive but also thoughtfully designed to prepare students for real-world challenges, which stood out to me during my decision-making process.

Additionally, Belfast, as the host city, played a significant role in my choice. It's a beautiful and vibrant city in Northern Ireland, full of cultural richness and history, but also one that is rapidly growing with immense opportunities for aspiring professionals. I see Belfast as a place where I can thrive both academically and professionally.

What further solidified my decision was Queen’s dedication to its international students. The support I received from the university even before arrival—from guidance on admissions to addressing my queries promptly—showed the seriousness and care they have for their students. It was clear to me that Queen’s goes above and beyond to ensure their students feel welcomed and supported, which was incredibly reassuring as an international student. This combination of academic excellence, a supportive environment, and a promising location made Queen’s University the perfect choice for my postgraduate studies.

How has this course helped towards, or shaped, your future career goals?

Coming from an undergraduate background in hospitality, this course has been transformative in shaping my career aspirations toward a global corporate role, both in hospitality and other multinational corporations. It has provided me with a broader, strategic understanding of how businesses operate on an international scale, helping me bridge the gap between hospitality and the dynamic world of global business.

The modules in this programme, covering areas like international business strategy, marketing, finance, and human resource management, have equipped me with the analytical and decision-making skills essential for excelling in multinational environments. By combining theoretical insights with real-world applications, the course has sharpened my ability to address challenges in cross-cultural management, global innovation, and strategic planning.

This learning experience has not only refined my knowledge but also expanded my perspective, preparing me to contribute effectively to any corporate office or MNC. It has inspired me to think beyond the boundaries of hospitality and position myself as a versatile professional capable of thriving in diverse industries, setting a strong foundation for a successful career on a global stage.

What were the highlights of your course and your time here at Queen's University?

The highlights of my course and time at Queen's University have been truly transformative and memorable. One standout moment was when a discussion with my Program Director led to the incredible opportunity to act as a marketing representative for the MSc International Business programme, a role that allowed me to connect with peers, enhance my leadership skills, and represent a programme I’m deeply passionate about.

Another highlight was the global education trip to Italy, where I gained invaluable insights into international business practices while immersing myself in a new culture—an experience that perfectly aligned with the course's global focus. Additionally, the group activities and interactive sessions in class were not only fun but also a great way to build teamwork and gain practical knowledge in a collaborative environment.

Queen’s has been more than just an academic institution for me; it has been a supportive and welcoming community that has brought significant personal growth and countless opportunities my way. From academic achievements to building lifelong friendships, choosing Queen’s was truly one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. It has shaped me into a more confident and ambitious version of myself, ready to take on future challenges.

Have you secured a job yet? If so what is your job title and the company you are working for?

So far, I’ve been fortunate to receive multiple opportunities and have successfully been selected for several roles. It’s an exciting time, as I’ve been able to explore various career paths and secure offers that align with my skills and aspirations. I’m looking forward to taking the next step and officially starting my professional journey soon!

If you could give one piece of advice to potential applicants to this programme, what would it be?

My one piece of advice to potential applicants to this programme is to start preparing early and embrace the journey holistically. From day one, focus on building your network—it’s a key to unlocking countless opportunities. Always remember, until you don’t ask, you don’t get, so never hesitate to ask questions, seek guidance, or communicate your needs. Effective communication is a vital skill that bridges gaps and opens doors.

At the same time, remember that knowledge and hard work matter, but so does balancing your life. You’re not just a student—you’re also an immigrant in a new country and society. Take the time to explore, travel, and immerse yourself in the culture around you. Balancing academics with personal growth will not only make your experience more fulfilling but will also enhance your productivity and perspective.

Ultimately, success in this program isn’t just about excelling academically; it’s about growing both personally and professionally, building resilience, and enjoying the process. Balance, curiosity, and adaptability will be your greatest tools.
