Postgraduate: Grecia Huasasquiche Vega's Experience Studying at Queen's Business School

Meet Grecia Huasasquiche Vega, a recent MSc Human Resource Management graduate.

Why did you choose to study MSc Human Resource Management?

I chose to study this subject to deepen my expertise in human resources management, building on my professional experience in my home country. Having worked in HR for a variety of industries, I’ve seen first hand how impactful effective people management and organisational strategies can be on business outcomes; therefore, I wanted to elevate my skills by studying abroad to gain exposure to global perspectives.

Why did you decide to undertake postgraduate study at Queen's Business School?

I chose to pursue my master's degree at Queen’s University Belfast because it offers a unique blend of academic excellence, professional recognition, and an inspiring environment. By being part of the Russell Group, the school has a strong reputation for research and academic rigor, which was important for me. Having the programme fully accredited by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) was also a key factor in my decision, as it offers a direct pathway to gaining a highly regarded professional qualification. Altogether, Queen’s Business School provided me with the perfect setting to move forward on my career in human resources, both on an academic and practical level.

How has this course helped towards, or shaped, your future career goals?

This MSc in Human Resource Management has been instrumental in improving my career goals and preparing me for a successful future in HR on a global scale. It offered me valuable guidance for my career path, helped me develop key professional skills, and expanded my network. Overall, the programme has given me the tools, insights, and connections that are needed to make a meaningful impact in the field.

What were the highlights of your course and your time here at Queen's University?

From my time at Queen’s University Belfast, I highlighted all the supportive communities that enhanced my learning and professional horizons. The first months were really hard for me, but the school offered constant support anywhere I looked. In addition, and as an example, for my dissertation, working on my project in a real-world UK setting was invaluable, allowing me to connect theory with practice in the cultural setting I needed.

Have you secured a job yet? If so what is your job title and the company you are working for?

Not yet. Hopefully soon!

If you could give one piece of advice to potential applicants to this programme, what would it be?

Use every single resource the school has. Take the academic English classes and go to the sessions with the international student advisor, Arlene Bustard. That support made a difference in my year at QBS.
