Undergraduate: Enda's Erasmus Experience in Madrid
Enda McSorley is a BSc Economics with Finance student who took part in Erasmus at ESIC Madrid where he studied Marketing in English.
What areas of your study abroad programme did you find most rewarding?
My study abroad experience was enhanced by the collaborative atmosphere in the classroom, where working in small groups helped making connections in class. Additionally, the friendships and connections made on campus, with other students, and within the wider study abroad community.
Please describe how undertaking the study abroad programme has helped towards, or shaped, your future career?
The study abroad programme has made me much more confident and independent. The experience has helped me get out of my comfort zone, try new things and take on new tasks. It has also given me a different mindset in taking on new tasks. It has also given me a new perspective on how things are done in different cultures and communities around the world.
What advice would you give to a future student thinking of undertaking a study abroad programme?
I would definitely recommend taking the opportunity to study abroad as it offers invaluable life experiences and the chance to form friendships along the way. Alongside this, the experience offers the opportunity to travel with like-minded individuals, making friends that will last a lifetime.
How did you find the change from studying in Northern Ireland to studying abroad?
The class culture differed significantly, with classes scheduled from 4-9pm every Monday to Friday. The schedule fostered a distinct classroom environment and personal experience where I got to interact a lot more with my lecturers and classmates. The atmosphere was a lot more relaxed due to the extended hours. The overall intensity of the class appeared less demanding and less challenging.
