Undergraduate: Suzanne’s Reflections on Her BSc in Accounting
Suzanne Mooney is a student ambassador and BSc Accounting student at QMS who will graduate in summer 2023. Here’s her final year, final thoughts.
What has been your favourite part of studying at the School?
My lecturers on the BSc Accounting course have been very helpful and explained the material in engaging ways. They were easy to contact and made assignments clear in advance.
I completed two summer internships with KPMG and GMcG Chartered Accountants during my time at Queen's, which resulted in a job offer before my final year -an amazing achievement for me.
I enjoyed my student ambassador role as it’s been fun getting to know so many students from different cultures and backgrounds. Overall, I've really enjoyed my time at Queen's and would recommend it to everyone.
Tell us about your experience taking part in DegreePlus.
The DegreePlus Award is an employability award that allows you to gain formal recognition and a certificate for the extracurricular experience you gain during your time at Queen’s.
I am a global student ambassador for Queen's University, and I have written a series of blogs and attended open nights throughout the year. I've met so many people from different degrees and countries through my DegreePlus. It was an amazing way to network with others who I will remain friends with for a long time.
The opportunities to try new activities such as writing blogs, and participating in open days and promotional videos, taught me so many new skills that I will be able to carry into my career.
What advice would you give to anyone thinking of studying at the School?
When starting your degree, it's fine to feel overwhelmed during the first couple of weeks as everyone is settling into the new area, timetables, making friends, and understanding course materials. Things will settle down and don't worry if you don't understand harder topics, they do make sense over time.
I would say the best advice would be to stay on top of your work and get involved in as many activities in Queen's as possible, especially in the first year. Even though it may seem like you are overwhelmed with work, the first year is the best year to try new activities and meet new people.
