Originally from Japan, Shiro Masuyama is a socially engaged artist and he is bringing his half-Irish, half-British caravan, the Borderline Project, to the Seamus Heaney Centre at Queens on Tue 18 Nov, from 11.00am-3.00pm. Everyone is welcome to visit the caravan outside on Marie Heaney Square. At 3.00pm there will be a one-hour artist’s talk in the Heaney Centre.
Admission is free and open to all.
Masuyama’s work explores identity, belonging, and the politics of place with wit and precision. Born in Japan and now based in Northern Ireland, his unique background enables him to explore how political dynamics around us influence identity. The Borderline Project is touring venues across the island, supported by the Arts Council of Ireland and the Centre for Creative Practices. It also features in the online creative platform developed recently by the Heaney Centre and the Trinity Long Room Hub: www.borderculture.net.
Shiro Masuyama’ past residencies include IMMA (Dublin) and Flax Art Studios (Belfast), with exhibitions held across Ireland, the UK and internationally.
