Last Night's Fun: a conference and commemoration for Professor Ciaran Carson
We are pleased to invite you all to register for Last Night's Fun: a conference and commemoration for our colleague Professor Ciaran Carson on Wed 13 - Sat 16 Sep 2023.
The conference will celebrate the work of Ciaran Carson, poet, writer, musician and founding Director of the Seamus Heaney Centre. It will deal with all aspects of his writing, including his poetry, translations, criticism, fiction and non-fiction. Keynote speakers are Professors Alan Gillis, Sinead Morrissey and Paul Muldoon.
Special events include a civic reception in City Hall, a series of readings from Wednesday Group members past and present, a piece celebrating traditional music referenced in Last Night's Fun and other works, and a performance of Owenvarragh by Úna Monaghan with readings by Liam Carson. We are also delighted to launch Collected Poems: Volume 1 and Volume 2 in association with The Gallery Press, and a special edition of the Poetry Jukebox celebrating Ciaran's legacy as an educator.
A conference exhibition, Star Factory by Jonathan Brennan will run throughout September in the Crescent Arts Centre.
