The Yellow Nib is a poetry journal produced in association with The Seamus Heaney Centre at Queen’s University, Belfast. The magazine has published poetry, criticism and reviews by new and established writers. 

Production of The Yellow Nib has been paused for now while we take stock of our various publishing platforms, but back issues are available to order through http://theyellownib.blogspot.co.uk/p/about.html. 

The Yellow Nib 11, edited by Leontia Flynn and Frank Ormsby, contains poetry by Hannah Lowe, Carol Rumens, Byron Benyon, Elaine Gaston, John Redmond, Nick Laird and Ruth Carr and reviews by Padraig Regan, Maureen Boyle and Leontia Flynn.

The Yellow Nib 10, edited by Leontia Flynn and Frank Ormsby, includes poetry by Liz Rosenberg, Alex Wylie and John Sewell and reviews by Andrew Earon, Edna Longley and Eoghan Walls as well as a selection of poets writings about anthologies that first caught their imagination or influenced them at a later stage.

The Yellow Nib 9, contains poems by Ciaran Carson, Alan Gillis, Fran Brearton and John McAuliffe alongside reviews by Stephen Sexton, Edna Longley and Gail McConnell.

The Yellow Nib No 8 contains poems by Christopher Reid, Fleur Adcock, Rachael Boast, Miriam Gamble, Mark Granier, Rita Ann Higgins, Sinéad Morrissey, Christopher Reid, Carol Rumens, Fiona Sampson and Jack Underwood.

The Yellow Nib No 6: The Yellow Nib Modern English Poetry by Indians. In November 2009 a delegation from the Seamus Heaney Centre for Poetry visited Hyderabad, Kolkata, and New Delhi. The participants included Michael and Edna Longley, Professor Ed Larrissy and the singer Pádraigín Ní Uallacháin and Ciaran Carson.

I had the privilege, at a reception held at the home of the Irish Ambassador in New Delhi, of meeting the Indian poet Sudeep Sen, and before long we had established that our notions of poetry and its dissemination were very similar. I outlined to him the philosophy behind the Seamus Heaney Centre’s journal The Yellow Nib, and discovered that he also edited a journal called Atlas, which featured, among other things, the best of contemporary Indian writing in English.

It was a short step from that to invite him to edit a guest issue of The Yellow Nib(volume 6) featuring the best of Indian writing. So it came to pass. The result is a magnificent anthology which brings new voices to our attention, and features writers who have already made their mark in these islands: a book which reshapes our understanding of Indian literature.  (Ciaran Carson, Director)
