OPEN CALL!
Seeking short stories by writers from the Seamus Heaney Centre for broadcast on BBC Radio Ulster and BBC Sounds in 2025. Read on for pointers on what the editors are looking for in this year's call for submissions.
Submit up to 2,000 words (PDF or Word doc), alongside a short contributor biography stating which course you are completing/have completed, by FRI 29 NOV 2024 (midnight). Submissions and enquiries to shc@qub.ac.uk

The Brief:
Write a 2,000 word story
Submit it to shc@qub.ac.uk, with the subject 'BBC Storytellers Submission', stating which course you are completing/have completed by Fri 29 Nov 2024
Your story will be read by producers at BBC Radio Ulster. If it is selected, the producers will help you edit the story, it will be recorded by a voice actor for broadcast on BBC radio and iPlayer in 2025, and you will be paid for your work.
They are looking for stories featuring:
Comedy
Humour
Funny stories
Clever monologue
Two-part dialogue (one actor)
Eavesdropping funny conversations
Challenging mad opinion
They are especially seeking:
Ironic stories
Tales that reflect our place
Oddities in language or behavior
Black / dry humour
Roguery and wit
They will NOT consider stories referring to:
The Troubles
Suicide
Funerals
Strong language
Overt sexual references
