We provide a range of resources and facilities to help you make the most of your time on and off campus: 

The Exchange social space
SOCIAL SPACES

Take a break from your studies.

Our undergraduate student common room and postgraduate social space (The Exchange) offer a place to relax and take a break from your studies.

Our undergraduate common room in 6 College Park is a newly renovated social space with a kitchen facilities, including a microwave, kettle and sink.  We also provide access to a MDF printer/scanner and a PC.

The Exchange in our University Road postgraduate building is a large, airy space with soft seating, cafe-style tables and chairs and a vending machine.  There is an area reserved for PCs.

PGCE science laboratory with benches and equipment
SCIENCE LAB

The recently refurbished Science Lab in our 69 University Street postgraduate building offers the PGCE students the perfect environment to train for teaching science subject practicals.


VIRTUAL REALITY LAB

Supporting Mental Health and Health Professional Training.

Immersive 360 Video for Health and Social Care training sees the development of 360 video simulations to train social work students, nurses and midwives. Project leads (Paul Best [SSESW] and David Trainor) received funding from Future Screens NI to develop novel approaches designed to make 360 video more interactive.

The Immersive Technologies and Digital Mental Health Network is an interdisciplinary partnership of academics, practitioners and technology companies focusing on therapeutic and pedagogical advances in mental health and social care through digital means.

A wide-angle view of the upstairs in the Graduate School
RESEARCH STUDENT SPACE

Full-time postgraduate students within the School are guaranteed office space along with dedicated computing facilities.

The Postgraduate Research Development Programme for research students includes mentored employment as tutorial assistants.

We are part of the ESRC funded Northern Ireland North East Doctoral Training Programme (NINE) which is focused on the provision of exceptional PG social sciences training.

The School is also part of the SPaRK Doctoral Training Programme, a Horizon2020 funded Marie Skłodowska-Curie doctoral training programme that supports interdisciplinary PhD students at Queen’s University Belfast.

McCLAY LIBRARY

As a Russell Group institution, Queen's University offers superb library facilities for studying and researching Education, Social Sciences and Social Work. With a dedicated Subject Guide and Librarian our award-winning McClay Library blends the best features of a traditional library with the latest technology.

The Library houses 1.2 million volumes. Facilities include IT training rooms, a Language Centre, support areas and a cafe, as well as the University’s Special Collections.
