The fresh agreement will see the two institutions strengthen collaboration across a broad range of shared priorities, including staff teaching and research visits, curriculum development,  joint student activities, and enhanced support for learners progressing from Belfast Met to Queen’s.

Professor Sir Ian Greer, President and Vice-Chancellor at Queen’s said:

“Part of Queen’s longstanding commitment to the tertiary education eco-system in Northern Ireland is to widen access routes to further and higher education for both young people and those seeking to develop or change career paths later in life.

“We are delighted to reestablish our partnership with Belfast Met, as a new cohort of young people start to consider their options upon school-leaving. This Memorandum of Intent will promote greater co-operation between our institutions and ultimately advance learning outcomes and employability for students.”

Under the renewed Agreement, a new Biomedical Sciences Foundation degree pathway has been introduced, the college having seen its first intake in September this year, and successful programme graduates due to start with Queen’s in September 2027.

The new foundation programme will add to a range of other successful pathway initiatives between Belfast Met and Queen’s including foundation degrees, and access degrees.
