Safe Regeneration

This project encourages community cohesion by delivering inclusive, accessible experiences which improve the health and wellbeing of all of our community, through access to water and other outdoor activities and events. SAFE Regeneration delivered programme of activities throughout the project, based in and around their adopted stretch of the Leeds-Liverpool canal in Bootle. These activities will enable people to learn new skills and connect with others and the natural world, whilst improving their physical and mental health – known risk factors for non-communicable diseases. By incorporating litter-picking paddles and planting as part of a wider cleaning and greening of the area, they encouraged environmental awareness and a sense of pride and belonging. This project connected people, elicited conversations, and encouraged friendships all while experiencing the area from a different perspective, engaging with the beauty of the wildlife and enjoying the tranquil waterway. The focus of this project is making these opportunities more accessible to everyone, particularly participants from two local visually impaired charities: Bradbury Fields and Galloways. All wish to continue paddling and enjoy more opportunities to connect with and be part of our SAFE/pub community, accessing the many events and activities delivered throughout the year.
