A climate of trust? Society and climate change in Northern Ireland

The climate crisis is the focus of much social, political and policy debate, concern and blame. But whose responsibility is it to tackle climate change? And can they be trusted to act?

In this ARK seminar, Professor Katy Hayward and Dr Jonny Hanson, both from the School of Social Sciences, Education and Social Work (SSESW) at Queen’s University Belfast, will highlight findings from the 2024 Northern Ireland Life and Times survey, exploring public attitudes to climate change. There will also be short responses from Climate NI and the Rural Community Network.

The event will take place on Tuesday 27 May 2025, 10.30 to 12.00, in Room 0G.074, Lanyon Building, Queen’s University Belfast. Refreshments will be available from 10am.

This event marks the launch of the findings of the 2024 Northern Ireland Life and Times survey.

The presentations will be videoed, and made available at a later stage on the ARK site.

Professor Katy Hayward MRIA FAcSS is Professor of Political Sociology in the School of SSESW and Co-Director of the Centre for International Borders Research at Queen’s University Belfast.
Dr Jonny Hanson is a Research Fellow in the School of SSESW and ARK’s Assistant Survey Manager.
