New Study on Crescendo Shows Improvement Pupil’s Self Regulation
A new study by Dr Liam O’Hare and colleagues at Queen’s University Belfast has found that Crescendo, a community led, orchestra delivered music programme significantly improves musical skills and self regulation among 5-6 year old pupils in disadvantaged communities.
Evaluating the first year of the seven year programme across eight schools and 559 children, researchers observed positive effects on music skills, and behavioural self regulation compared with control schools.
The programme is delivered in partnership with local community organisations, primary schools, the Ulster Orchestra, and Queen’s Innovation Zones, supporting children in areas historically affected by social and economic disadvantage.
The findings highlight the potential of sustained, inclusive arts based programmes to strengthen children’s development and support wider community wellbeing.
