How Well Does Queen’s Prepare Students for Their Future Careers?
We asked, they answered. Here’s what our students told us when we asked them how effectively Queen’s has prepared them for life after graduation.
"These opportunities give you hands-on experience that really prepares you for the professional world"
“Studying at Queen’s has been an incredible journey that’s equipped me with both technical and personal skills that I’m sure will be super valuable in my career. I’ve learned industry-standard tools like SPSS and SAS, worked on real-world case studies and consulting projects with businesses, and even attended workshops where corporate professionals shared their experiences.
All of these experiences have made studying at Queen’s an amazing learning experience and have really prepared me for the professional world. On top of this, the Student Ambassador programme has been a huge plus, not only because it helps you develop transferable skills, but it also counts towards the Future-Ready Award that you receive alongside your degree. These opportunities give you hands-on experience that really prepares you for the professional world.”

Abdul Wahab Butt, MSc Marketing, Pakistan
"Tutors will challenge you to become more confident and resilient"
“Studying at Queen’s has developed my critical thinking. In my line of study that is an invaluable skill for my future career. The university really encourages you to think outside the box and build your opinions on research and a logical progression of thought. The tutors will challenge you to become more confident and resilient, and lecturers look at every possible angle to give you the broadest possible knowledge of your subject.”

"At Queen's, I rediscovered who I am and what I want to do"
“Queen's has absolutely prepared me for my future career. The Creative Writing programme gave me so much, but above all else, it restored my passion for all that I do. A career isn't supposed to something hollow and obligatory. It isn't supposed to be something we do to simply pass the time. One's career is the means by which they explore and express their deepest and truest self. In doing so, they serve the rest of society. At Queen's, I rediscovered who I am and what I want to do to make this world a better place. I realigned with why I do what I do, and that "why" will continue to guide me from here on out.”

Brittany Marasciulo-Rivera, MA Creative Writing, USA
"I’ve been able to build the skills and connections I’ll need to start my career right here at home"
“When I finish my degree, I plan to work in Northern Ireland and studying at Queen’s means that I’ve trained and become comfortable where I want to work in the future. I’ve been able to build the skills and connections I’ll need to start my career right here at home. I’ve recently gained a place on the Queen's ambition for success programme, this is unique to Queen’s and helps encourage and prepare nursing and midwifery students for a leadership career in healthcare. During this programme I’ll be mentored by local academics and healthcare leaders. It’s a fully funded programme and it will really help me stand out from the crowd when applying for jobs.”

Charlene Spence, Midwifery, NI
"They give us chances to gain real work experience on campus"
“Queen’s provides a wide range of excellent training programmes where we can freely choose the skills we want to develop, depending on our interests and availability. We can even request specific training if there’s something new, we’d like to learn. The university also supports us with funding opportunities, especially if we want to present at conferences, which is a huge career advantage.
Another great aspect is the MyFuture platform and professional services at Queen’s. They give us chances to gain real work experience on campus, almost like an internship, so we can build professional skills while studying. For example, I have had the opportunity to work as a Global Student Ambassador. These roles have given me valuable experience beyond academics, especially in public relations, which I know will be very useful for my future career.”

Muhammad Nawir, PhD Education, Indonesia
"There are numerous opportunities to develop my leadership skills"
“Studying at Queen’s has certainly helped me build a lot of transferable skills like communication, time management, collaboration, etc. For my course, there is at least one presentation as part of the coursework in a semester, which enhances my confidence and public-speaking qualities. Apart from this, there are also numerous opportunities to develop my leadership skills.
For example, I got an invaluable chance to volunteer as a student ambassador for an international conference with BISA where I gained hands-on experience in a professional and academic setting. Additionally, students can also volunteer in the varied range of clubs and societies at Queen’s. I am going to be a part of two different society committees this year, and these leadership roles are foundational in facing such commitments in one’s future career.”

Natasha Charles, Anthropology and English, India
"The university provides excellent career services, from CV workshops and employer talks to networking events"
“Studying at Queen’s has prepared me for my future career in so many different ways. Academically, I’ve gained a solid foundation through high-quality teaching and access to great resources, but I’ve also been able to build transferable skills outside the classroom. The university provides excellent career services, from CV workshops and employer talks to networking events, which have helped me understand what employers are looking for and how to present myself.
Beyond that, my involvement in student life has been invaluable, I’ve had the chance to take on leadership roles, such as serving as President of the Sudanese Society, which has strengthened my communication and organisational skills. I’ve also taken part in international opportunities like the Beijing Institute of Technology summer school through the EPS Jetset programme, which gave me global exposure and broadened my perspective.”
