The gathering underscored QBS's dedication to building dialogue on pressing global issues by uniting thought leaders from various sectors to discuss the future of sustainability.

The event commenced with a keynote address by Ambassador David Donoghue, Honorary Professor of Practice at QBS and former Irish Ambassador to the United Nations. Ambassador Donoghue, renowned for his pivotal role as Co-Facilitator in the negotiations of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), shared invaluable insights into the evolution of the SDGs and their profound implications for businesses worldwide. His address emphasised the necessity for enterprises to integrate sustainable practices to achieve these global objectives.

Following the keynote, a dynamic panel discussion ensued, featuring Faye Thomas, Chief Commercial Officer at Vyta, Brian Reid, Chief Executive of Deli Lites Ireland, Dr. Laura Steele, Director of Ethics, Responsibility, and Sustainability at QBS, and Ambassador David Donoghue. The discussion covered a range of critical topics, including the reuse of IT equipment and its role in advancing the circular economy, the journey and benefits of becoming a B Corp certified company, the importance of academia in supporting businesses' sustainability efforts, and the role of the Northern Ireland Executive in guiding sustainability initiatives. Chaired by Professor Michael Alcorn, Associate Pro-Vice Chancellor (Strategic Projects and Sustainability) at Queen's University Belfast, the panel provided valuable insights and perspectives on sustainability challenges and solutions.

Attendees also participated in interactive breakout sessions focusing on:

  • General Sustainability: Exploring broad strategies for sustainable development.
  • Sustainability Reporting: Discussing the importance of transparency and accountability in sustainability practices.
  • Digital Sustainability: Examining the role of digital technologies in promoting sustainable solutions.

These sessions raised robust discussions, enabling participants to delve deeper into specific areas of interest and share best practices.

The event attracted a diverse audience, including representatives from the public sector, manufacturing industries, sustainability organisations, policymakers, policy influencers, and key business leaders. This diverse mix facilitated rich networking opportunities and the exchange of multifaceted perspectives on sustainability challenges and solutions.

Building on the success of this inaugural event, QBS is pleased to announce that the next Business Breakfast Insights session is scheduled for Thursday May 8, 2025. Further details will be made available in the coming weeks. QBS remains committed to serving both business and society by providing platforms that encourage meaningful conversations and collaborations on critical global issues.
